What to Look For

For all sources, consider the following three things:

  • Credentials of the writer
    • What kind of education does the writer have?
    • Is their job connected to the subject; has their life experience given them special insight into the subject?
    • Have they done any other publishing on the subject?
  • Where the essay appeared/who published the work?
    • Is it a reputable outlet?
    • Has it been fact-checked?
    • Is the publisher known for a partisan/biased view or for objectivity?
  • Sources / The facts/arguments in the essay
