What to Look For
For all sources, consider the following three things:
- Credentials of the writer
- What kind of education does the writer have?
- Is their job connected to the subject; has their life experience given them special insight into the subject?
- Have they done any other publishing on the subject?
- Where the essay appeared/who published the work?
- Is it a reputable outlet?
- Has it been fact-checked?
- Is the publisher known for a partisan/biased view or for objectivity?
- Sources / The facts/arguments in the essay
